Frequently Asked Questions

About the App

Why is there no iOS version available?
Currently, I’m unable to develop for iOS due to development costs and the requirement for Mac hardware for testing and deployment. I’m exploring web-based alternatives that could serve iOS users in the future.

Is the app really completely free?
Yes! The app is entirely free to use, with no adverts, no in-app purchases, and no hidden costs. If you’d like to support development, there is an optional donation feature in the settings.

Why are you developing this app?
I created this app as both a technical challenge and a practical tool that combines software development with my passion for fencing. I wanted something that would help track my own fencing progress without compromising on privacy or requiring an internet connection.

How was the app developed?
The app was developed as a personal project, combining modern Android development practices with practical fencing experience. The logo was designed by a professional designer. I’ve used various development tools and resources throughout the process, focusing on creating a reliable, user-friendly application.

What devices has this been tested on?
The app has been tested on various Android devices with different screen sizes and Android versions. While it should work on any device running Android 5.0 or higher, it’s optimised for phones rather than tablets.

Will you add support for other languages?
Currently, the app is only available in English. Future language support will depend on user demand and development resources.

What’s the difference between this and https://fencingtracker.com/?
FencingTracker.com is a US-specific website, with no international options. It also requires login and seems to only track competitions. Fencing Bout Tracker doesn’t require login, doesn’t care what region and only stores data on your device.

Privacy & Data

Does the app really not collect any data?
Absolutely none. The app operates completely offline, storing data only on your device. This has been verified through Google Play’s data safety programme.

Why isn’t there a cloud sync option?
I’ve deliberately chosen not to implement cloud synchronisation to ensure maximum privacy. Your bout data remains solely on your device, giving you complete control over your information.

How secure is my data?
All data is stored locally on your device using Android’s built-in security features. Since the app doesn’t connect to the internet, your data cannot be accessed remotely.

What happens to my data if I uninstall the app?
All app data is removed when you uninstall the app. Make sure to export your data before uninstalling if you want to keep it.

Features & Usage

Can I export my data?
Yes! You can export all your data to CSV format, which can be opened in spreadsheet applications like Excel. This feature is available in the Settings tab.

What should I do if I get a new phone?
Before switching phones, export your data using the export feature in Settings. You can then import this data on your new device after installing the app.

Does the app work offline?
Yes, the app is designed to work completely offline. No internet connection is required for any features.

How can I back up my data?
You can export your data at any time using the Export feature in Settings. I recommend:

  • Regular exports to your device storage
  • Copying export files to another device or cloud storage
  • Exporting before any app updates
  • Exporting before changing devices

Future Development

What features are planned for the future?
We have an extensive development roadmap that includes competition tracking, enhanced statistics, and more detailed bout analysis. You can view the full roadmap [Insert roadmap link].

Will you add competition/tournament features?
Yes! Competition features are high on our priority list for future updates. These will include specific competition bout tracking and tournament-specific statistics.

Feedback & Support

How can I provide feedback or suggestions?
I welcome all feedback! You can reach me via:

I’ve found a bug – what should I do?
Please report any bugs via email, including:

  • What you were doing when the bug occurred
  • What device you’re using
  • The app version (found in Settings)
  • Any error messages you saw

Installation & Updates

How often is the app updated?
Updates are released when new features and improvements are thoroughly tested and ready for release. I prioritise stability and reliability over rapid updates.

What Android version do I need?
The app requires Android 5.0 or higher, though for the best experience, Android 8.0 or higher is recommended.
